About this deal

Each bottling of the Fettercairn single malt displays the emblem of a Unicorn, a symbol of Scotland since the reign of King Robert III and a feature of the Ramsay coat of arms, once flown over the Fasque Estate upon which the distillery still stands and on the inn, where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert spent the night more than 150 years ago. Not only a grand day but with some of the best Single Malts I have tasted in a while, a complete Whisky adventure. Once again thanks to all.

Fettercairn has recently been Dalmorized. That means they’ve asked The Nose to highlight some of their best whiskies, specifically at high ages. The classic Dalmore recipe of finishing in Gonzalez Byass casks and Port casks has been applied, as well as an overall (steep) increase in price. The unicorn is said to stand for purity and strength and has been a symbol of Scotland since the reign of King Robert III. It is also used within the Ramsay clan crest, of which the founder Alexander Ramsay brought with him to the distillery. Fettercairn 28 year old seems to love water – it’s therefore a shame its delivered at 43% ABV, which gives the imbiber little room to manoeuvre. Whilst there’s a good interplay between fruit and wood – and balance along with it – the level of odd funk/rancio (rotting flowers) really does detract away from both the maturity and the more defined aromatic aromas/flavours. It’s also crazy expensive for a 28 year old from a little known distillery. For at least 10 years he ran parallel experiments in Jamaica and Scotland to improve his rum and whisky production. These experiments included using a wooden still that prevented the wash from scolding and increased the spirit’s alcoholic strength; however, these stills proved grossly inefficient in comparison to other designs of stills such as the Coffey still. By his death in 1845 he was hopelessly indebted, and the distillery never recovered. There is no association between Shand’s distillery and modern Fettercairn. If you’re in the market for a stupidly expensive, uninteresting malt from an unpopular distillery then feel free to form a queue. Everyone else, ignore it and maybe it’ll go away. Fettercairn Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Ramsay, owner of the Fasque estate, who converted a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery. After losing his fortune, Alexander was forced to sell the estate to the Gladstone family in 1829.

Do you ever consider how you may be remembered? For some of us it may be for voluntary service, professional achievement, or perhaps just warmly within the confines of our own family. Those who have reached great heights through business success or public office are often aware of the eventual eulogising that may follow them. We’ll be trying the new Fettercairn 28 Year Old (€ 600), the Fettercairn 40 Year Old (€ 3500) and Fettercairn 50 Year Old (over € 11.000).If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Fettercairn is a pure spirit which is crafted by its unique stills and forged through temperate maturation. Within its process, the distillery uses a unique irrigator ring that surrounds the stills which drenches the still to deliver only the purest spirit. In recent years, they have been experimenting with flavours from wood charring, with whisky aged in barrels made from locally sourced oaks. [2] Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). Fettercairn has four stills, two wash stills and two spirit stills. There is an unconventional cooling system to lower the temperature of the spirit stills, they have cooling rings which stream cold water down the exterior of the stills. Bottom line: Fettercairn is relaunched with a slightly quirky line-up. The 12 year-old base expression is reasonably priced and quite good. It is worth a try for its gentle fruity character. The 28 Year Old is very funky, forget about that one.

John Gladstone’s son William Gladstone, went on to become Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer and was instrumental in passing various reforms on the taxation of whisky. Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Master Whisk Maker Gregg has taken the Scottish Oak Programme as a deeply personal project. He said, Smell: Honey and vanilla. Toffee. Apple juice. Ginger snaps. Pineapple and white grapes. Set in the wilds of the untamed Eastern Highlands at the foothills of the Cairngorm Mountains, Fettercairn begins life in an isolated location that’s allowed this Scotch whisky to hone its own distinctive taste and characteristics uninterrupted over time.

First established in 1824, Fettercairn whisky was just the second legal distillery to open following the Excise Act of 1823, and it’s seen its own fair share of troubles and obstacles over the years too, namely a fire which meant that the distillery had to be rebuilt and the subsequent financial woes. The Scottish Oak programme is about more than the sawmill and the distillery, it is every aspect of Whisky making – From forest to field to Fettercairn” We all headed for the hotels so that we could freshen up and change for our gala dinner at Amuse by Kevin Dalgleish Restaurant. More recently, Donald Trump was vocal about his belief that he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize instead of Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia in 2019. The complexity with this case is that Abiy Ahmed subsequently launched a civil war in November 2020 which has been conducted with such brutality that various observers claim genocide. This is the value offering of the range; lashings of juicy fruit balanced by oak spices and the gentle enhancement of sherry casks. Score: 6/10Perhaps more questionable is the suggestion that at the height of the success of Shand’s distillery with his experimental stills, Nethermill distillery installed Shand’s design of still in 1832: Taste: Nutty, dark chocolate, very oaky, layers of oak spices and muted orchard fruits, cinnamon bark, blood orange, toasted oak, French polish, dry and tannic finish. Conclusions:
