Bowmore enjoys a curious middle-ground as far as flavour is concerned; far from being a lighter offering - à la Northern Islay-based Bunnahabhain - the spirit is not as heavily peated nor as smoky, as its three Southern cousins surrounding Port Ellen. This Islay single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in 1997 and matured for 25 years in an oloroso sherry butt.A beautifully inspiring and limited release; this unique, handcrafted vessel houses an equally exceptional rare single malt, Black Bowmore 1964. A celebration of the legendary Aston Martin DB9, this Bowmore 18-year-old Islay single malt was made as part of an ongoing partnership with the car manufacturer originally. When the folk of Bowmore formed an angry mob to chase the devil out of the church (which is of course round, offering him nowhere to hide), down the road and through the distillery, it was assumed that he must have made his escape in a cask heading to the mainland aboard the Maid of Islay.

Bowmore is Islay’s very first licensed distillery, a location which also happens to be home to the world’s oldest Scotch whisky maturation space. Just 284 bottles were filled in 2023, without colouring or chill filtration, at 46% ABV by Douglas Laing for its Provenance range.
