About this deal

He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But… they are brother and sister. I just think that you are such an amazing author and you have this startling ability to change points of view .. if anybody was going to write a powerful story about culture clash or identity, i know that you would do it the best ! Even the tag line on the cover of my copy of the book, “Sometimes love chooses you” suggests that Maya and Lochan are a brother and sister who just happen to fall in love. I just don’t find that notion credible. It’s made less credible by their circumstances, which seem almost tailored to foster unhealthy relationships. As a reader, I try not to focus on the author, but to accept the characters at face value. In certain circumstances, I find that hard to do. It’s believable that Maya and Lochan don’t see the role that their family dysfunction plays in their relationship. But I needed some sense from the author that the reader was supposed to understand differently, and I never got that. Although there were parts of the book I had trouble with, Forbidden is a really good book. It's disturbing and thought-provoking in turn, and a story you won't forget in a while.

Break-Up/Make-Up Scenario: Due to the taboo of incest, the pressure of secrecy, the angst of Can't Have Sex, Ever, and a few emotionally insensitive comments, Lochan and Maya break up for a chapter.Hale brings us into the lives of Hudson and Rylie. All Hudson wants to do in life is play ball, graduate college and settle down with his long-term girlfriend. Those dreams go out the window when tragedy strikes and he’s forced to return home to his sister Rylie who has dealt with mental illnesses her entire life. That, my friends, is when it all begins.

No, that’s ridiculous. My problem is that I need someone to focus my attention on, some object of desire, some girl to fantasize about. I look around the class but there is no one. Attractive girls—yes. A girl that I care about—no. She can’t just be a face, a body; there has to be more than that, some kind of connection. And I can’t connect, don’t want to connect, with anyone. Maya wasn’t going to be the same, and he left Willa, Tiffin and Kit without their father figure. I didn’t like the message I got after the end. Lochie’s suicide wasn’t going to save his family, it was going to mess them up. That was just half the paragraph. Now think of every chapter having several of that. At one point Matheo and his friends took a trip to the South of France and I found myself dreading it.At seventeen, Mathéo Walsh appears to have it all. He is a champion diver and a hot prospect for the upcoming Olympics. He is a heartthrob, a straight A student and lives in one of the wealthiest areas of London. He has great friends and is the envy of many around him. And most importantly of all, he is deeply in love with his girlfriend, Lola. He has always been a stable, well-adjusted guy . . . Platonic Co-Parenting: Subverted. Lochan and Maya seem like they're doing this at first, raising their siblings in lieu of their useless parents, but the "platonic" part eventually goes out the window.
