About this deal

The Wild Robot Escapes is the story of a robot torn between two worlds. Roz was designed for her new life. She was designed to work alongside humans and robots and to live in the civilized world. But her computer brain is filled with perfect memories of her old life on the island. She grows to care about the new characters she meets, but she misses her old friends and her son and her home. And so our robot must discover for herself where she truly belongs. Storyboard That is an excellent tool for students to create fun and engaging projects as a culminating activity after finishing a novel. In addition to our premade activities, here are some ideas that teachers can customize and assign to students to spark creativity in individual students, pairs, or small groups for a final project. Several of these ideas include Storyboard That templates that can be printed out or copied into your teacher dashboard and assigned digitally. All final projects can be printed out, presented as a slide show, or, for an extra challenge, as an animated GIF! The author writes about the positive results from being kind to one another and accepting each other in a playful and creative way that is sure to capture our attention and leave a lasting impression. Consider the following conversation between Roz and Jaya:

Using the worksheet layout and Storyboard That’s worksheet assets, create a test or a quiz for other students in the class. You can create all kinds of questions such as multiple choice, short answer, and even matching! When you are done, be sure to make an answer key. I could not imagine a better followup to the Wild Robot and I am hoping against hope that there will be a third. The chapters varied in size, some were really short, others were long. I quite liked that the author did it this way, it made it all just a bit more fun and engaging to read.

The author, Peter Brown, has incorporated all types of technology and scientific terminology into The Wild Robot. Examine these with your group to determine what is real, and what isn’t quite real. What are some technological advances that he didn’t include in the story? How would you have included more? croak, “Where are you? I can’t see you!” And then another would reply, “I’m over here! Follow my voice!” When Roz first stomped across the island, the animal squawks and growls and chirps had sounded like nothing more than meaningless noises. But she no longer heard animal noises. Now she heard animal words. We have been reading the Wild Robot books a lot . We loved your first Wild Robot book, so we had to move onto your second one. I’m excited to hear that there will be a new one. My favourite part is where Roz jumped off the building then someone rebuilt Roz to save her life. The books showed me how characters react. My favourite characters are Roz and Brightbill because they stand out. She misses her animal friends and her adopted son (a little gosling) but she's realistic, her robot body is battered and dented.

Will Roz stay on the farm? Will she continue to repair fences, herd cows, plant corn etc., and marvel, in her robot-way, at the wonders of nature, humans, existence here - or ... Roz could feel her Survival Instincts—the part of her computer brain that made her want to avoid danger and take care of herself so she could continue functioning properly. Her instincts were urging her to move away from the ocean. She carefully got to her feet and saw that high above the shore, the land was bursting with trees and grasses and flowers. It looked lush and safe up there. It looked like a much better place for our robot. She had just one problem. To get up there, she would have to climb the sea cliffs. But after an accident leaves him damaged, Cog wakes up in an unknown lab—and Gina, the scientist who created and cared for him, is nowhere to be found. Surrounded by scientists who want to study him and remove his brain, Cog recruits four robot accomplices for a mission to find her. From there we follow Roz and "her" humans and see Roz interact with the farm animals (who are quite surprised that this robot can speak the language of the animals, of course) as well as some wild ones nearby. She tells her story and thus reveals that she hasn't forgotten about her beginnings, about the friends and family there and that she misses them. The outline had 90 plot points, and I developed each one into its own chapter, so the book has 90 short chapters The 4th grade class was reading this story and I took it out of the library to read and discuss this with my 4th grader…he actually asked me to buy him the book so he could read it over again…We are going to read all three and then I will buy them all for him. Your book is the first chapter book we have been able to follow and discuss. In your first book, I loved all the scientific concepts you have incorporated in the story…I started taking notes for a discussion. Your books about the Wild Robot are inspiring and entertaining. Now I see you are writing the Wild Robot Protects. I’m wholly invested in this extraordinary series! My favourite character was Brightbill and the things he said as I can just imagine Brightbill doing that.

Roz has the tremendous task of adapting to her new way of life, much like people do in many ways in real life. What are some examples of how Roz adapts to these changes? Was it easy for her? What challenges did she face? Be sure to use details from the text.Science fiction meets fantasy in this delightful sequel that gives readers a unique look into what technology could someday have in store. A must-buy for any middle grade collection.”― School Library Journal, starred review Peter has always loved telling stories. Growing up in New Jersey, he told stories by drawing whimsical characters and scenes from his imagination. Then, as a teenager, he fell in love with writing, and told his tales with words. While studying illustration at Art Center College of Design, Peter’s love of both words and pictures led him to take several courses on children’s books, and before long he knew he’d found his calling.

We read a five little monkeys book and then over time wrote 4 sequels to that story. We put the monkeys into different situations, introduced cousins and aunts. Using one of Storyboard That’s biography poster templates, create a poster about the character of your choice. Be sure to include important biographical features such as: place and date of birth, family life, accomplishments, etc. Peter Brown is a master storyteller to have written such a lovable story - so full of emotions and joy and sorrow. To contrast the wilderness of the first book, I wanted Roz to now experience as much of the civilized world as possible. I wanted her to experience cities and towns and rural areas. I wanted human characters and robot characters and domestic animal characters. And there would have to be futuristic technology: computers and machines and vehicles. As I thought about the future, I asked myself more questions: Eventually, the sketches were replaced with the final illustrations, and we got an even better idea of how the finished book would lookAnd like I said before, this be categorized as middle-grade. Bah! Don’t let that stop ye! I don’t put age limits on things. Everyone should read about Roz the robot. Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name. See this thread for more information. After a while, the island starts to feel like home to Roz. Why is this? What does home feel like to you? As Roz adapts to her new life, roles, and responsibilities, she comes to like being at the farm. However, she still sometimes longs to leave. Why do you think this is? Have you ever had a time in your life where you have felt like this? Discuss with your group or partner. Using one of Storyboard That’s board game templates, create a game based on the book for your classmates to play!
