The Gin Guide Review: Alongside the honourable donations to wildlife conservation in Africa, Elephant Gin is a deeply characterful, well-constructed and complex gin, with prominent classic gin characteristics accented gently, but noticeably, with African botanicals. But it is not only the product in the loving packaging that makes the brand Elephant Gin simply likeable: With 15% of the proceeds Elephant Gin supports the Big Life Foundation as well as Space for Elephants and thus also does good for the protection of species of pachyderms in Africa. They're joined by mountain pine, apple, orange peel, ginger, and a few more hushed-up botanicals that make Elephant Gin such a treat. When neat, the nose is generous and complex, with pine, herbaceous notes, earthy spice, fruity citrus and hints of florals.Made in Germany using African botanicals, Elephant Strength Gin is an excellent example of the navy style. Adding tonic elevates the pine and floral notes on the nose as well as the deep earthy and woody characters on the palate. Macerated in the gin for several months, these wild berries add a richly rounded, lightly sweet and exquisitely fruity bouquet as well as a typical warm red colour to the spirit. Each batch is named after past great tuskers and elephants that Elephant Gin’s partner elephant conservation foundations currently help to protect. Combining their award-winning Elephant London Dry Gin with the classic flavour of fresh sloe berries. The mouthful is smooth, full and dry, with a freshness of pine, apple and subtle florals, together with orange peel and earthy spice. The taste is complex but strikingly smooth, encompassing floral, fruity and spicy flavours, which can be enjoyed both straight and in a cocktail.

In fact, it's actually helping them survive, as 15% of Elephant Gin's profits go to two African elephant foundations (Big Life and Space for Elephants) to support rangers who protect against poachers and run education projects in local communities. Lion's Tail (not literally), Devil's Claw (not literally), Baobab, and African Wormwood are the African rarities in this gin.In fact 15% of Elephant Gin’s profits go to two African elephant foundations helping them to survive. If the gin had at least 57% ABV, then it surely survived the test and was proclaimed of navy strength. Each batch of Elephant Gin, comprised of just 800 bottles, is named after an elephant, living or dead, that was known personally to the conservationists. An intense initial blast of fresh aroma and a natural sweetness, complimented with a full bodied botanical backbone and perfectly balanced juniper finish. One thing that he's definitely got in common with the producers of Elephant Gin is a love of wildlife; 15% of the profits from the gin are donated to conservation projects aiming to protect the wild population of elephants in Africa; the Big Life Foundation and the Space for Elephants Foundation.

Whilst the Elephant London Dry Gin and Elephant Strength Gin share the same fourteen botanicals, including rare African ingredients, to create their distinctive flavour profiles, the latter uses twice the quantity of botanicals and has an ABV of 57%. Although produced in Germany, the gins are an extraordinary tribute to the continent of Africa: in addition to more classic herbs, roots and fruits, African botanicals such as cassis and lion's tail are used.
