A few months after the launch of the Venus UM560 model , the Chinese brand Minisforum is preparing to launch, over the next month, two new miniPCs with the name, respectively, of NUCXI5 and NUCXI7, with Intel Alder Lake H45 processors and option for Windows 11 Pro (in the case of choice with the storage already mounted).Larger heat dissipation area design inside the machine further reduces the temperature and helps the machine to exert its performance. Powered by an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and Nvidia RTX 3070 mobile GPU, the chassis of the NUCXi7 resembles a slimline games console rather than a traditional desktop tower. With a built-in Intel WiFi 6E-AX210 module, you can enjoy decent performance for gaming and streaming. Consider that your keyboard and mouse will take up two of those three and you’ll see why I’m disappointed. On the gaming front, the NUCXi7 consistently delivered above 60fps as a baseline on ultra settings at 1440p resolution with every game I threw at it from Control to God of War.
On the 4K Extreme graphics settings we got impressive scores of 33 on the i5 and 48 on the i7 model. I wish Minisforum had left the front of the NUCXi7 blank, since a plain aluminum chassis would have looked much better in my opinion. While the performance is not quite that of a fully specced gaming desktop, the processors and in particular the mobile GPU’s remain very competitive.I tried to turn this into a Steam Machine using the unofficial Steam OS 3, the same operating system that runs on the Steam Deck. With the NUCX series, the Minisforum system manufacturer offers a full-featured gaming PC, using almost exclusively laptop components. The machine takes up very little desk space, which allows me to have an ultra-wide monitor and the computer on the same desktop.
The NUCXi7 is unfortunately meant to stand upright and it includes a base to which it attaches quite firmly. If the goods supplied to you develop a defect while under warranty or you have any other complaint about the goods, you should notify the Supplier as soon as possible, but in any event within 14 days of the date you discovered or ought to have discovered the damage, defect or complaint.
With heaps more power than a PS5 in a thinner form factor (and much quieter to boot), I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out. Starting off with synthetic benchmarks, the NUCXi7 achieved a single-core score of 1538 and a multi-core score of 9172. Of course, the NUCXi7 won’t sway traditional PC users who can build a more powerful and upgradeable system for less, but then you won’t get something as ultra-compact as this.
