About this deal

So would I expect my drive, when formatted by my laptop and then reinstalled, to be formatted again in the Humax? I live in N.Wales which is undergoing transmission problems, but this has been occuring for days now.

I'm reasonably computer savvy, just wanting to preempt any problems before I hit them, so any advice is welcome. If I had a suitable older slower 500GB drive in my pc then I'd be upgrading the pc, making it a fair bit faster and using the pc drive for the pvr, just a thought for the more technically minded. Luis: Thanks for the info about moving threads it is a pity they don’t put a flag to indicate its been moved.

Conclusion

Of course, selecting programmes from the guide depends on the Freeview guide being correct, which it generally is. You can widen the recording window to allow for minor scheduling errors, as well as trim recordings down to cut out unnecessary extras you didn’t want.

If I find a way to connect it up to a PC and do a full format (I only have a 'family' laptop myself and don't want to start messing with that), is there any particular type of format that's required? Under the hood, essentially, you’ll find twin Freeview tuners and 160GB of hard disk drive and this is where the real contest is fought. It is not the biggest of drives, but for those looking to record on an ad hoc basis this is more than adequate, giving you about 100 hours of television recording. Thanks for replying. I found a thread on DS about the 9300 which has the same problem but there was an interesting post which claimed that it was noted that the cooling fan was not operating and after replacing the fan it fixed the problem: I don't think the drive has to be a CE drive in particular. You need a 3.5" SATA (not SATA III) that is less than 750GB (I would say doubling your capacity to 320GB is enough and would be safer). The hard drive is a relatively modest 160GB, equating to around 100 hours of standard-def TV. Go easy on the season linking because this PVR will fill up fast. Thanks again, but I am reluctant to try all the suggestions as I am 75, and 'though I consider myself computer literate, I forsee getting into a helluva mess!

If you use the Freeview+ 8-day option on the TUTV PVRs then this is the same as that used by the Humax so will have the same characteristics. However, the TUTV PVRs do take much longer to populate the EPG than they should, up to 7 hours or more in my experience.`But then that is just one of many issues with the TUTV software. As you say if you use the 14-day EPG option on the TUTV PVRs then this should not apply, you either get all or nothing.

Also, do I simply remove, reformat and replace the drive, power up, reset to factory settings and go from there or do I somehow need to restore some software? E.g. where is the Loader stored? If on the disk, how do I restore it?

BEFORE REMOVING THE COVER UNPLUG EACH AND EVERY CABLE FROM THE HUMAX AND WAIT A MINIUTE OR SO BEFORE REMOVAL. One key aspect of any PVR is its operational noise. The good news is that this standard-def diva doesn't raise the roof. There's an onboard fan but it's whisper-quiet. Have 2 new Humax PVRs, both of which are having Mega problems! On one, the guide hasn't fully populated all day and on the other, all is filled other than BBC 1 & 2 Wales. To be honest we have tried leaving the box connected to mains power and this has resolved the problem for us. Even if put into standby overnight the schedules were all there in the morning. It's only a total disconnect from the mains that drops the schedule. My experience of Accurate Recording is that it is anything but. I doubt all the blame is Humax and a large percentage is the broadcasters. But nearly every recording I made with it turned on was late starting and often cut off before the end as well. So I never use it. But I now can't use Series Link either. Software updates for the PVR-9150T are subject to testing by the Digital Television Group (DTG), which is taklng place on June 11. Humax will give details of the release date for the PVR-9150T fix in due course.
