Honestly, it's a mess. Weird, choppy pacing, no visible character growth, dramatic unexplained personality changes (grown up Mio is so different from the quiet sad boy who sat by the sea and mourned his mother), and tons of ideas and threads that don't really go anywhere. The story is… chaotic. It feels like watching a digest of a series you have never seen. The characters are poorly introduced, it’s riddled with confusing cuts that seem to just skip over huge portions of would-be story, and has timeskips without warning that make it even more confusing. We are given no reason as to why should we care about the characters at all – unless of course you are a fujoshi, in which case the usual procedure would be to get hyped about boy’s love and disregard everything else, no further characterisation is required. Ultimately the story, or at least what I could catch from it, adds up to about an average shounen-ai plotline about dude liking a dude while some people are not fully okay with that. Nothing groundbreaking. I have not read the original work yet, so I don’t know if it too is as rushed as the movie, but guessing based on the fact that it is only one volume long, the adaptation probably didn’t left out much things.

In the title I described harukaze no etranger as a family centered BL, because the focus is not only the relationship between Mio and Shun, but also the family relationships and the way they can be difficult when you add homosexuality, but not necessarily abusive and traumatic. I didn't love everything about this, but it is a really good manga. I agree with Sherry that the initial confession happened a bit too fast but considering it was initially supposed to be a short story that probably can't be helped. I liked the way they tried to navigate their relationship afterwards, and I liked that it didn't really matter who the seme or the uke was. I would've preferred if Mio wasn't "normally into girls", but at least Shun was gay and there was an actual lesbian couple. Umibe no Étranger is a story that bases itself around coming to terms with who you are and your situation. It is a story about growing up and basking in pure first love. The animation, sound, music, and setting all bring this movie together. And albeit it may be a little fast-paced, it surely is a diamond in the rough. i watched this on 9anime.to , but you can find it on youtube aswell . im always looking for more wholesome or just in general good bl & gl . alot of the time theres some weird incest , the storyline is just bad or it fetishes mlm / wlw relationships which isnt something i want to watch . so when i got recommended this i was worried it was going to be like something i listed above , but i was so wrong . im surprised at how not alot of people are talking about this movie a b Aou, Kozue (August 8, 2014). Ya paso bastante tiempo desde que leí este tomo, pero quería escribir la reseña después de haber leído todos los tomos de esta pareja y puedo decir con mucha seguridad que de los cuatro tomos de Harakuze no etranger y del tomo único Umibe no etranger este es de los peorcitos, Un extraño en primavera es perfección pura y el segundo y tercero de la serie Harakuze no etranger también son de los mejores ,ahora este es como un inicio medio raro, no me malinterpreten lo ame porque amo la relación que tienen Mio y Shun son de mis parejas mas favoritas de la historia de mi existencia pero si creo que todo va mas lento y no es que como que la trama sea de lo mejor ,te hace morirte de la ternura por la pareja y te hace tener ganas de seguir leyendo los demás tomos que se ponen mucho mejores, pero en particular este primer tomo no te engancha del todo y no toca temas interesantes, tal vez un poco sobre la relación con la familia de Shun y por que se separaron pero esos temas se profundizan muchísimo mejor el los siguientes tomos.
