After its formation in 2017, Isle of Barra Distillers became the Isle of Barra's first legal distillery and Scotland's most westerly distillery. The distillery now employs six people who all work passionately to grow the company and awareness of the island. Barra Island Dark Rum is rich and full of island maritime notes and flavour by utilising the key botanical, carrageen seaweed, which the brand is famed for, hand-harvested from the shores of Barra. Infused in our Outer Hebridean Island with carrageen seaweed, coconut, cardamom and orange, among a host of other botanicals.

Our Island Spirit from the Outer Hebrides has been chosen for distribution by a UK-wide supermarket. The remote island is home to Michael and Katie Morrison who had a dream to create a future for their family on the island. We want to create somethingthat not only we can be proud ofbut that the wider Barracommunity can be proud of,giving back to our thriving islandhome.

This rum is special for its infusion of maritime botanicals and its origin from the Outer Hebridean Island. Infused with their signature botanical, Carrageen seaweed, their award-winning Island Dark Rum is also infused with coconut, cardamom and orange peel.

The first batch of gin was distilled in August 2017 using 'Ada', a custom built still named after a special little lady who might be operating the still in the future! Distilled and bottled on the remote Scottish island of Barra, their gin has a piece of its home in each bottle.Based on the remote Outer Hebridean island, Barra Island Distillers has been churning out some delicious spirits while we wait for the arrival of its first whisky.
