About this deal

She also has an underappreciated gift of being able to sense something of the history of an object, which is very interesting in the context of this book. Had I known that a slight tolerance for ghosts, magic and over the top coincidences are required to enjoy The Keeper of Lost Things, I may have been hesitant to give it a try. As much a tale about the loss of things as people, love and even self, the threads that connect us and the kindness of strangers. Hardly any plot and metaphors as far as the eye can see, and bland characters that "need to be saved" because they have some mental health issues or might have made a mistake in the past.

Anthony, for a very personal cause, has collected these objects for 40 years since his wife passed away, and following his own death requests the endeavour be taken up by his assistant Laura. My only criticism is that there are a few instances of curious things happening and these are never explained. Whimsical and gentle, it is a tale and of life and loss and resolves easily, if a little predictably. I loved the characters in this, even the snooty Portia, and especially Sunshine, and Anthony’s story, wonderful, but heartbreaking.

But Tilly's childhood was shattered when her mother sent her away from the only home she'd ever loved to boarding school with little explanation and no warning. I live in a chaotic Victorian house with an assortment of rescue dogs and my long-suffering partner (who has very recently become my husband - so I can't be that bad! First off I must be honest even though I was excited to read The Keeper Of Lost Things I was however a bit worried it was going to be a bit depressing but how wrong I was! With faltering steps, Laura befriends the extraordinary girl that is Sunshine, a downs syndrome child who has been bullied.

Full of character, wit, and wisdom, The Keeper of Lost Things is heartwarming tale that will enchant fans of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, Garden Spells, Mrs Queen Takes the Train, and The Silver Linings Playbook.Anthony was distraught at loosing his wife and also the one item that would keep his promise and keep him close to her. Everything was an alliteration - Poisonous Portia, Slinked seductively into the salon (everything was alliterated, all the time!

Though Anthony's compulsion for collecting lost things to find peace and work through his grief did seem a bit over exaggerated eg a button isn't something people might even remember losing let alone try to find again.

Her own success is an inspiration within itself, as this authoress was older when her first book was published. Overall, a read I would suggest to anyone who wants a quick, quirky read that will lift their spirits.

There is an altruistic tone to the story rather than an obsessive covetous desire to amass belongings. Ruth Hogan successfully intertwined a number of different stories, including a selection of short stories. It isn’t revealed how this narrative connects with Laura’s until the end, but it does and in a very satisfying way. Once a spirited, independent woman with a rebellious streak, Masha's life has been forever changed by a tragic event twelve years ago. Heavy on Anthony's heart, aside from the fact that his fiance died many years ago, before they could get married, is that he lost something very dear to her the day she died. A sometimes poignant, sometimes funny but always heartfelt page-turner, The Keeper of Lost Things turned out to be exactly the book I was looking for. The treatment of the dogs, the way their people love them so deeply and share their days with them, is just another part of the story that worked so well for me.
