About this deal

The item may be missing the original packaging or protective wrapping, or may be in the original packaging but not sealed. That seems to me reasonably conclusive proof that the combination of EE 4G, the Huawei B535 and the Ubiquiti USG do not play well together. Prior to sending one out, we'll also be able to quickly double check everything's okay with your account and see how your current SIM's updating on the network. RCMS – Robustel’s Cloud management platform – essential for managing an estate of routers – Basic version FREE. It beats the pants off most USB dongles and MiFi devices, and the external antenna connections mean pairing it with a Bluespot antenna is easy, for rock solid broadband internet.

Plus, the Huawei B535 has four ethernet ports for wired connections, which is more than most rivals, and there are two sockets for connecting an external SMA antenna to improve performance. I'm left thinking that the SIM probably has something set that's preventing it enabling an internet connection after successfully registering with the 4G network.

I thought that it would be the B535 that has to encapsulate (if that's the right word) IPv4 traffic from the USG? The B535 WebBox can get up to 64 devices online at once, which is more than most people should need. Inserted the Vodafone SIM, powered up, and all the right lights came on to show that the router was connected and receiving a strong 4G signal. I use a Mikrotik Chateau with an EE SIM, with the default everywhere APN, username eesecure, password secure I can choose ipv6 only, ipv4 only or dualstack. The 4G Vodafone GigaCube is also worse, as it has up to 300Mbps download speeds and 50Mbps upload speeds, just one ethernet port, and support for connecting just 20 devices at once.

An iPad connected to the B535's wifi seems to work, with IPv6 addresses, but that isn't much use; the B535 is in a separate building with a cat6 cable through to the house. Those are some great speeds, but in reality your speeds will probably be a lot lower, with download speeds in most cases topping out at more like 100Mbps. If they are similar signal strengths and speeds when testing the router indoors and outdoors then an outdoor antenna might not be the solution. The B535 also has four 1Gb ethernet ports giving you high speed connection via cable to your devices. Magento Community Edition is the most powerful open source e-commerce software and can be downloaded 100% for free. Similarly, I am specifying DHCPv6 with Prefix Delegation size of 64 (that at least enables the ping6 to work).

I’m pretty sure that if I could get the v4 connection to work (which I can’t, so far), in either mode, it would solve the problem. It’s worth noting that you’ll still get better performance from a 5G router such as the 5G version of the Vodafone GigaCube, but that depends on you having 5G coverage, and often costs most. You can also use the router in combination with a fixed broadband connection and use the 4G connection as a backup. It clearly works to the extent of being able to ping6 (when ssh'ed into the USG) to an IPv6 address, but 'ping6 google.

There’s also the option to connect an external antenna as it has support for two SMA antennas, to potentially improve the range and performance of the device. The preceding specifications are theoretical values obtained by Huawei internal laboratories through tests carried out under particular conditions. With two built-in high gain 4G antennas and two external antennas interface, the Wi-Fi signal stability and strength are improved.
