About this deal

Bogart is not brash like a lot of aromatic fougeres from its era, and I consider it to be mainly a leather fragrance. Instead, Bogart Pour Homme smells exceptionally aromatic, and I even detect some nice green mossy notes in this. But also I've learned that I simply don't like sweet vanilla/tonka drydowns in this type of fragrance. if you like the original Polo or Paco Rabanne PH and are on the lookout for a similar cheapie get this.

It's like a perfect blend of those with an ever so slight nod to a sweet, dark and rich classic fragrance.Jacques Bogart is one of my favourite houses, so many great fragrances from the one man show line, silver scent line etc. I get the opening notes of rosemary and lemon, and yes, while there still is a soapy note, it isn't nearly as prominent, nor as long-lasting. Owning "Signature" and "One Man Show" already, i thought it would be another vintage smell fragrance. Typicaly from vanilla tobacco perfumes I get a spicy scent which is very similar to dry carnation stems, or the oil from carnation that dentists use. Bogarts sex juice, this is stunning and along with Silver Scent Intense is my most complimented fragrance.

However, if you're a fan of lavender and tonka, it might be worth sampling to see if it works better for you. Bogart is stronger, denser, and more mature-smelling than Shock, which is a bit muskier and more fleeting, more candied, more whimsical. First seconds are confusing, but a couple of minutes later it turns into a nice mild sweet fragrance good for the office and other serious meetings.

Performance is relatively tame considering the house which released it, but it's still a strong fragrance. Everything else about it I adore, especially its fresh and brassy masculine edge full of vim and vigor. It opens like it is going to stain your clothes and smell up your whole house but then it takes you on a full throttle ride of pure joy and confusion. It was a solid, leathery fougere that while powerful never was so over-the-top that it couldn't be worn as a good daily scent.

The opening actually makes me wrinkle my nose a bit, although it does settle down as time goes on and I start to like it a bit more as the other accords start to express themselves. As the scent develops, the moss and floral notes start shining through and giving the scent a soapy profile, although the leather stays throughout the duration of the scent. I blew the old one on the other and the new one on the other, the smell of the old can be felt more firmly even after 3-4 hours, the new glass will completely fade by then. I believe this Jacques Bogart product is one of the best value for money fragrances I've ever encountered. If I could have things my way, I'd pull out the florals and powdery accords (which could be from the floral notes) and move the base of this up to the heart.

This is really a powdery fougere-gourmand that has some clear resemblance to Rochas Man, which makes sense, considering that Maurice Roucel did Rochas Man five years before working on the Bogart alongside Norbert Bijaoui. What is there to be said about this heavy hitter that is ever so often likened to Le Mâle and Pure Havane. Its become cool enough that Zara recently came out with Leather Jardin, which is a masterful nod to this style of perfume.

Guess what, one spray of Bogart pour homme puts Ganymede and Interlude Black Iris (YES, GANYMEDE AND FREAKING INTERLUDE BLACK IRIS) to a shame. Intermediate explanation: I actually like to make a bow around all these "Homme" fragrances, they are namely like trimmed to inconspicuousness, to what many men imagine under men's fragrances. That said, be warned that the oakmoss, carnation and bitter leather combination may smell dated to Sauvage/Aventus fanboys, and it's not a crowdpleaser, thus hard to pull off in presence of "average joe" crowds. The base is my favorite part, as it takes on more of a dark cherry/black cherry theme, with a little vanilla and some spice. The interest that causes the pleasure that it gives us when using it, Jacques Bogart Pour Homme marks the regret of many of us who do not know or are unwilling to enjoy it.
