Being the crafty mom that I am,who is also not-so-slightly obsessed with a Silhouette Cameo, I decided to make Rowan’s paint shirt extra special….but in a not-too-complicated way.

The first time I did this activity with my son he was 9 months old and today he is 20 months old. He loves this sensory play activity just as much today as he did almost a year ago!

So next time you want to let your kids explore their senses and get creative, why not let them make their own sensory cupcakes?! You can even add a drop of food coloring to the foam to color the cakes! Another great skill this activity works on is fine motor movement. Their little hands and fingers were working non-stop to make and decorate their cupcakes. It might seem trivial, but activities like this will actually help your child to strengthen their pincer grip muscles ready for writing! So as you all are probably well aware, my son started preschool a couple weeks ago….I’m still trying to get used to a quiet house, and my new free time! He of course needed some supplies, includinga paint shirt. The supply list that was sent home stated he needed to bring an “oversized paint shirt with child’s name written on it.” But it’s not full of salt or sugar to where the baby would necessarily want to keep eating it. There is no blender required. It has a great texture for little fingers.
