About this deal

Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and adored dogs, gardening and the countryside. He doesn't hesitate to fire trapeze artists Jan and Yol on discovering that they have been treating their dog cruelly. The story revolves around Jimmy, his parents, his dog Lucky and the others like Lotta, who work in the circus. One of the dogs becomes ill and Jimmy goes well out of his way to track down an old formula that cures the poor creature.

A classic selection of stories to read and share by one of the world's best-loved children's authors, Enid Blyton. The little girl is cheeky — she pulls faces at her friends when she feels like it, and she's not averse to dealing out the odd pinch with her strong little hands.

To read them is to soak up the atmosphere of circus life with its glamour and glitter but also its trials and tribulations. Mr Galliano's Circus was one of my regular story time books that I absolutely adored and my mum nailed with her narration. The main message is "be kind to animals", which is all well and good, but the situations are rushed and superficial until almost the end of the book. A good part of the reason why Jimmy is so accepted by the circus folk must surely be his likeable nature.I wonder how they felt about it after a few years of having only a washbasin for the entire family to get clean in? Perhaps the story is more developed in later volumes, but for now most of the characters--particularly the adults--are two-dimensional and the story is very superficial. Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some signs of wear on either the binding, dust jacket or pages. Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and loved dogs, gardening and the countryside.

I must confess I re-read it for myself a few years ago and the excitement was still there, I am hoping that Leah enjoys it as much as I did.

Prelims have beeen neatly removed so no date but appears late 1960s possibly to remove library or school stamps as there is a small handwritten taped number to the spine suggesting this has been a library or school copy. The Mannering boy possesses extraordinary talents where all creatures are concerned and this extends even to tiny ones such as lizards and slow-worms! Soon he befriends a little girl in the circus which leads him to become a common sight amongst the circus folk.
