About this deal

The feeling that I got while reading Grabriel's Promise was of suspense, I always felt like something was going to happen, it felt like they were constantly overserved or follow by someone, that really kept me super intrigued at all times thinking something was about to happen. But, if this is the last book, I feel like the author took the easy way out with the suspense angle here. Brilliantly written, Gabriel's Promise was a delightful addition to the series as Reynard is a masterful storyteller.

I have read hundreds of books since Gabriel’s Inferno, none of them have the elements I have found within the series. This story is a reunion of sorts with one of the most beloved couples in the romance world, as they tackle and withstand new challenges/threats. The book ends with possibilities of more novels in the series but i think it might be time to leave things be. It was no hardship spending more time with my favourite Professor and number one book-boyfriend, watching as he and Julia tackle parenthood which definitely put a new perspective on their relationship and their careers.

These would include finding out the identity of the night intruder, how the memento mori came to be left at the Emerson residence, and answers to some of the questions and mysteries that Gabriel has with the Divine Comedy.

Julia is a strong brilliant woman and she won’t allow anything separate her from her beloved husband. Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well known Dante specialist from Harvard who made a name for himself at the University of Toronto. I had an arc of this back in October but sadly time was not on my side and didn't have time to read it till now.Gabriel, Julia, and Clare are just the sweetest family, and of course, we get lots of extended family as everyone gathers round to welcome the new baby, which means some catching up with favorites from the series. Sylvain was building the set up for the plot, inserting a mysterious element that was very interesting to watch, everything was progressing and happening and suddenly, when I pressed next, it was over. But they will soon learn that Julianne is as strong as she is brilliant, and she won’t allow anything separate her from her heart and soul. On the other hand, even if Sylvain Reynard took care to show us their passion still intact and even added some dangers and angst in the story, the intensity, the despair that affected me so deeply in the previous books was absent or muted.

The author took readers down several possible story lines that just dropped as a result it was a waste of my precious time. In this, much less intense, installation of Gabriel and Julianne, we see them navigating married life as new parents. There is also an element of suspense here as someone or something seems to challenge Gabriel and his new family. I read some reviews saying that there were questions left unanswered in Gabriel’s Promise, but in reality, there aren’t. As a huge fan of Gabriel's Inferno series, this must be one of the hardest reviews I have ever written. It would be unwise to start this great story with this book, as it would be more than a little foolish to have missed the first three books about this couple, but also confusing. I’ve missed Gabriel and Julia a lot their story is breathtaking and beautiful and this book really brought so much back of what I’ve been missing.

So even though it was lovely to revisit my beloved characters, I can't help but feel that this book has no added value to the series. Some of you might think he's selfish but man, you'll love how sweet and adoring father he is to his daughter. Once we're released it's all about baby, godparents, diapers, waking up in the middle of the night, family, friends, work. Not wanting to put her PhD dissertation on hold, Julianne will struggle with the future of her studies when her husband is offered/wins a prestigious position overseas in Edinburgh, Scotland. I am a huge fan of Sylvain Reynard because of this series and it has been years since I've read the last book, Gabriel's Redemption. This book left me wanting more and not in the I-can't-wait-for-the-next-book way but in the I-can't-believe-there-are-no-answers-way.
